About Me

Hi! I’m Alec Baumzweig. Growing up, I’ve always loved both drawing and storytelling equally, which is how I found myself pursuing careers in the animation and children’s book industries. I graduated from University of Central Florida in 2019, receiving a BFA in Emerging Media, with a concentration in Experimental Animation. Several years after graduating, I returned to the classroom at DePaul University, in Chicago, where I earned a Master’s Degree in Animation with a focus in Storyboarding and Character Design in 2024.

My animated short film, Trash Panda, has won multiple awards at various film festivals around the U.S. It can be viewed on the Animation page of this site, as well as on YouTube. I have also written scripts for both stage and screen that have received praise from well-known veterans of their respective industries.

I’ve been heavily influenced by both western cartoons, and Japanese anime, and would love to talk about either for hours on end. When it comes to the big screen, I enjoy comedy and action films with unique premises, both animated and live action. I also love modern picture books that have humor, fun formatting, and talking animals.

Other things I enjoy include long walks through nature or quiet towns, video games, and trips to bookstores and comic shops. I’m also a fan of classic rock music, showtunes, and 1970/80’s pop (though I’m far from an expert in any music genre).
